I Think Mrs. West Goes to Too Many Meetings

I notice that Mrs. West goes to too many meetings. This makes me think that she is learning a lot, but sometimes she is gone more than half the week. When she is gone, we have to have substitutes that are always really strict. When they are strict I get mad and then I’m mad all day. The only substitutes that I like are Kim and Michelle. Also, I don’t like her being gone because I like the way she teaches. Another reason I think she goes to too many meetings is that I have usually already learned the stuff Mrs. West teaches after her meetings. This is why I think Mrs. West goes to too many meetings. Plus, I just miss her.

Dear Charlotte,
I am sorry when I go to too many meetings. I don't like to leave the classroom either. But, someday I hope to learn something that you have not already learned. That is proving to be difficult! You are amazing and smart and I would love to be with you learning EVERY day, meeting or NOT!
Love, Mrs. West

Charlotte,

I read your essay with great interest. I am a teacher in Queensbury, NY and I have been out of the classroom over 20 days this year for training. I know some of my students feel the same way you do. Your essay made me think about things differently. How much should we allow teachers to be out of the classroom? We want them to always be learning new things, but should there be a limit? Great job!
